Hosting an NYCEA Conference

The New York College English Association (NYCEA) invites New York colleges and universities to host one of our twice-annual conferences. The fall conference is usually held upstate, in the western part of New York, in September or October.  The spring conference is traditionally held downstate, often in the New York City area, in April or May.

What Does it Cost to Host an NYCEA Conference?
Costs are covered by the conference fees set by the host institution and paid by the participants. Often a small profit is made and contributed to NYCEA's treasury.

Seed money of US$200, repayable to NYCEA, is made available to the conference host in advance. Your institution may be able to provide funds as well; your Dean or Provost can assist you with this inquiry.

You may want to recruit members of your department or division to help with the planning and implementation of the conference; they can also participate as panel organizers, respondents, and presenters.

Contact an officer or member of the NYCEA Board to express your interest. Current officers and members of the NYCEA Board will provide you with guidelines and tips to help you host a successful conference. Even if you've never held a conference before, this can be a positive experience.

Propose a theme for your conference. Previous conference themes have included "Cultural Studies," "Literature as a Healing Art," and "The Uses of Fiction." Conference themes tend to be quite broad and inclusive. See "Themes from Previous Conferences" for ideas.
